Maile Shigemasa, DPT, originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, joins Optum after earning her doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University, focusing on adult orthopedics.
She relocated to New York city, one of the nation’s to cities for running, to pursue her studies and career. She holds a B.S. in Exercise Science from Creighton University, where she competed in Division 1 cross country and track and field for 4 years. During her time at Columbia University, she attended specialized courses in sports rehabilitation, telehealth, and pelvic health and was involved in various activities such as Columbia RunLab, student teaching and leadership board.
In her practice, she values a holistic, personalized, and evidence-based approach to therapy. She works closely with her patients to help them achieve their goals and regain their desired level of function.
In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities, reading, traveling, and spending time with loved ones and her dog, Horace.
