Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a common subspecialty of plastic surgery that focuses on the nose. It is often performed to help people breathe better, but also to improve the appearance of the nose.

Our experienced rhinoplasty surgeons will help you maintain a functional airway and durable structure, and create a nose that harmonizes with the face.

Symptoms and conditions that lead to rhinoplasty

  • Breathing problems (caused by internal constriction of the airways)
  • Cosmetic revision (deviated septum, or dissatisfaction with the position or size of the nasal bridge or nasal tip)

While people choose rhinoplasty for both medical and cosmetic reasons, it’s important to remember that it is a serious procedure and should be considered carefully.

Rhinoplasty surgeries should only be performed on patients whose noses have stopped growing, which usually happens in the late teens.

Treatment

Our advanced rhinoplasty techniques emphasize more natural results, individualized to each patient’s unique facial features. Before surgery, we’ll create a computer image of your nose to make sure we are aligned on our goals.

We offer two types of surgery:

  • Closed approach: The entire surgery is performed through incisions made inside the nose. This has several advantages including no external incisions, shorter surgeries and generally less swelling after surgery.
  • Open approach: An additional external incision creates more exposure and allows more precise correction of deformities. We perform many revision surgeries, using extra care to close the external incision so that it is often imperceptible.

Procedure time frame

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure most commonly performed under general anesthesia. Most rhinoplasties will take one to three hours. During recovery, swelling of the nose and under the eyes will dissipate rapidly over a few weeks, and most patients only require an over the counter pain medication during recovery.
