About Provider Mamta V. Shah, MD:

As an oculoplastic surgeon, Mamta Shah, MD, focuses on cosmetic and reconstructive procedures designed to improve the appearance and function of the eyelids and face. Oculoplastic surgery (also known as ophthalmic plastic surgery) is a specialized field of medicine that combines the microsurgery of ophthalmology with the cosmetic principles of plastic surgery. Dr. Shah’s extensive training in ophthalmology, with advanced training in plastic and reconstructive surgery, provides patients specialized eyelid surgery and facial rejuvenation, with the comfort of knowing they have a specialist who is medically trained in vision protection.

Injuries, congenital defects, aging changes and tumors can cause pain, eye damage, vision loss and disfigurement. Changes in the eye’s appearance or the loss of an eye can decrease one’s ability to see and interact in social settings and in the workplace.

Using surgical and cosmetic procedures, Dr. Shah has expertise in implants, reconstructing eyelids and eye sockets, correcting eyelid-position abnormalities, removing growths, and rebuilding critical ocular structures. She is also skilled in the latest plastic surgery techniques to restore a more youthful appearance for brow lifts and eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) to tighten skin of the upper and lower eyelids.

Facial rejuvenation is also an important part of Dr. Shah’s practice. She performs aesthetic rejuvenation procedures on the face on an outpatient basis. As people begin to age, sagging around the eyes, heaviness of the face, wrinkles, sun damage and other signs of the aging process begin to show up. Using cosmetic injectables, such as Botox® injections, dermal fillers such as Restylane®, chemical peels and laser resurfacing, she is able to relax fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and on the face.

Conditions treated:

• Age related eyelid issues
• Ptosis: Drooping of the upper eyelid
• Dermatochalasis: Excess eyelid skin
• Ectropion: Eyelids that turn out, exposing the inner surface
• Entropion: Eyelids that turn inward, causing the lashes to rub the eye
• Injury or illness that affects the eye, eyelid, orbit, or other nearby structures
• Skin cancer of the eyelids
• Thyroid (Graves’) Eye Disease
• Nasolacrimal disease/tearing
• Congenital and pediatric eye conditions

Dr. Shah was born and raised in New York. She graduated magna cum laude from Boston University and earned her medical degree at the same institution. This was followed by a residency in Ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate. She then completed an Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh. Dr. Shah is happy to belong to the community she serves. In her spare time, Dr. Shah enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, camping, and running. She is an avid tennis fan who hopes to make it to each of the grand slams at least once!
