Decca Mohammed, MD is an obstetrician-gynecologist in Belleville, New Jersey with over 20 years of experience and 10 years of specialist experience in robotics. Her highest privilege has been practicing in the same community and serving multiple generations of women from the same family and/or community. She strives to provide the best quality of care and maintain a philosophy of never having her patients leave the office with more questions than when they arrived with. Dr. Mohammed works together with her patients to try to answer if a medical intervention is necessary, and if so, what are the various alternatives. She discusses the pros and cons of each of the option, and sometimes decides the best option may be to do nothing and monitor.
In addition to obstetrical care, she also offers 1 years of specialized practice in robotic and laparoscopic minimally-invasive procedures, which allow her to perform with speed and accuracy. She was the first gynecologist to perform a robotic hysterectomy at Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, as well as Clara Maass Medical Center at Belleville Hospital. She helped to implement the Robotics Program at Clara Maass Medical Center, and was its chairperson for the first four years of the program.
She trained and proctored many gynecologists in her community, enabling more women to benefit from this minimally-invasive surgical approach. She migrated to the United States at a young age from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and maintained fluency in the native language of Amharic. She has two great college-age boys and enjoys her free time nurturing and supporting them.
