Common procedures and treatments

When medication and non-invasive gynecological procedures do not relieve symptoms, surgery is often the most effective treatment. We use the most advanced, minimally-invasive techniques for reduced pain and a faster recovery. We offer the following procedures and treatment options:

• Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus)
• Myomectomy (removal of non-cancerous growths in the uterus called uterine fibroids or leiomyomas)
• Uterine fibroid embolization (shrinking of uterine fibroids by blocking off their blood supply)
• Endometriosis resection (removal of endometrial patches or displaced uterine lining on and around ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, intestines, and abdomen)
• Sacrocolpopexy (repair of pelvic organ prolapse – a weaking of pelvic muscles commonly caused by menopause, childbirth or a hysterectomy)
• Advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery (minimally invasive options)
• Dilation and Curettage (removal of abnormal tissue from inside the uterus)
• Loop electrosurgical excision (LEEP) (removal of abnormal tissue on the surface of the cervix)

As part of our perinatal care and support, we offer fetal monitoring and treatment leading up to high-risk pregnancy and post-delivery. The risk factors and conditions our perinatal specialists treat include:

• Preeclampsia (a condition characterized by high blood pressure)
• Preterm birth (labor starts between weeks 20-37)
• Slowed growth of the baby and low birth weight
• Blood disorders
• Maternal weight (being over or underweight)
• Maternal age (special care for women under 17 and over 35)
• Diabetes and other serious preexisting conditions

Midwifery/Doula

Midwives and/or doulas can be an important part of a mother’s birth plan, especially in instances of natural birth and non-hospital birth. They provide individualized education, counseling, prenatal care, hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support.
