Dr. Rolando Sousa, aka "Doctor Seuss" to his littlest patients, is as pediatric neurologist and epileptologist with over 2 decades of experience. He specializes in a wide range of neurological conditions, from common issues like seizures and headaches to rare disorders such as epilepsy, Autism, ADHD, and pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric syndromes (PANS). He is proficient in routine and long-term EEG services, ensuring accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
Dr. Sousa is committed to enhancing the quality of life for young patients through innovative, traditional, and holistic therapies. With a passion for education and empowerment, he creates a supportive environment for families, helping them navigate neurological disorders with empathy and compassion.
Dr. Sousa's extensive educational background includes a Fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology and a Residency in Neurology with Special Qualifications in Child Neurology from the prestigious New York University School of Medicine. He also completed his residency and served as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at Newark Beth Israel Hospital and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, Rutgers University. His foundational medical education was obtained from the University of Panama School of Medicine.
Dr. Sousa is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and his commitment to excellence has earned him numerous accolades, including being named one of the nation’s Top Hispanic & Latino Doctors by Castle Connolly in 2024 and 2023 and Castle Connolly Top Doctors for more than 10 consecutive years. Throughout his career, he has held several notable positions, throughout the tri-state region, and as a Civilian Medical Officer with the US Army Joint Task Force in Panama, during the Cuban refugee crisis in1994.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Sousa has been actively involved with local State Boards of Education, providing independent neurological and neurodevelopmental evaluations for school-age children, to aid students with special needs. He collaborates closely with referring physicians, other medical specialties, and community health services to offer up-to-date, comprehensive but individualized care management strategies.
Dr. Sousa finds joy in balancing his passion for medicine with his amazing family. When he’s not caring for patients, you can find him golfing, hiking, skiing in winter, or cheering for the Yankees and Steelers with his wife, Caterina, who is a pediatric nurse practitioner, and their 5 amazing kids.
