What is Kybella?

Kybella is a non-surgical treatment for excess fat beneath the chin. It is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for adults struggling with stubborn fat. The process utilizes injections that target and destroy fat cells under the chin.

Injectables: Artistry makes a difference, and our team offers the skill to deliver natural results that turn back the clock. Optum also offers dermal fillers.

Many patients achieve their desired results in two or three injection sessions spaced six weeks apart. Kybella is an in-office procedure. Patients report mild numbness, discomfort and swelling in the first few days to a week after injections. Say goodbye to stubborn fat under the chin, and hello to beautiful results and improved facial contours.

What are the benefits?

After Kybella treatments at Optum Plastic Surgery, you will enjoy:

  • A reduction in fat beneath the chin
  • Improved profile
  • Little to no downtime
  • Long-lasting outcome
  • A boost in self-confidence
  • Beautiful, natural results

Who is the ideal candidate?

The ideal candidate is 18 years or older with isolated, stubborn fat beneath the chin and good skin elasticity. Candidates should be patient, as multiple treatments are required and spaced out. It is also important for candidates to have realistic expectations. For some patients, surgical interventions may be most appropriate.

What can I expect from recovery?

After a Kybella treatment, you may experience minor swelling or discomfort. Ice and over the counter painkillers are sufficient to ease side effects. Minor swelling and bruising may last a few days after treatment. You will be able to return to normal activity immediately after treatment. Depending on how many sets of injections are recommended for you, you will likely see results four to six weeks after your last treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kybella painful?

Many patients report discomfort during the injection of Kybella. Topical anesthetics or even ice can be applied before injection to minimize pain.

How many sessions of Kybella will I need?

The average number of sessions needed with Kybella injections will vary from patient to patient, depending on numerous anatomic factors such as skin quality and amount of fat present. On average, 2-3 treatments with Kybella are needed, spaced at an interval of one month apart.

Are there any risks associated with Kybella?

Kybella works to dissolve existing fat in areas of treatment. Once dissolved, this fat will not grow back. However, existing fat cells may swell with weight gain, causing a recurrence of symptoms such as fullness of the neck and chin area.
