What is a labiaplasty?

Age, genetics, and childbirth can all affect the size and shape of the labia. While there are expected anatomic variations, some women are bothered by larger labia for both physical and emotional reasons.

A labiaplasty procedure corrects the size and symmetry of a woman’s labia majora and labia minora. Your surgeon will remove excess tissue, reshaping the labia. Incisions are generally well hidden in the inner labia. In addition to enhancing the appearance of the labia minora, you may also be interested in improving vaginal laxity. Our team is here to help you learn more about how vaginal rejuvenation can help enhance natural vaginal tightness and sexual sensitivity.

The board-certified plastic surgeons at Optum Plastic Surgery strive to provide personalized, compassionate care while applying their skilled artistry to enhance your own natural beauty.

What are the benefits?

After your labiaplasty at Optum Plastic Surgery, you can expect:

  • Improved appearance and function of labia minora and majora
  • Enhanced sexual pleasure
  • Better fitting underwear, swimsuits, and clothing
  • Improved hygiene

Who is the ideal candidate?

Patients who suffer from enlarged tissue or skin laxity in the labia are generally candidates. Ideal candidates for a labiaplasty are at, or close to their ideal weight, do not smoke or consume nicotine and are in good general health.

What can I expect from recovery?

After a labiaplasty, some soreness and discomfort are expected. You will be sent home with a prescription for pain and antibiotics, along with detailed instructions to promote healing at home. You should avoid any strenuous or sexual activity for four weeks after surgery. Your surgeon will monitor your progress with follow-up appointments, making sure you’re healing well.

Frequently asked questions

How is labiaplasty typically performed?

A labiaplasty is typically performed by removing extra skin and subcutaneous tissue (fat) from the labia minora. This results in small scars typically hidden within the natural skin folds. There are several methods for performing labiaplasty depending on one’s anatomy.

What are the risks associated with labiaplasty procedure?

In addition to the general risks of cosmetic surgery including unpredictable scarring, infection, asymmetry and bleeding, some specific risks of labiaplasty surgery include prolonged swelling and pain / discomfort during intercourse which is temporary.

What results can I expect after labiaplasty?

Improved contour to the labia with a decrease in size and prominence. Patients typically report improved hygiene, self-confidence, and the elimination of pain / discomfort during physical activity and/or sexual intercourse.
