Stephen Xue, DPT was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Shanghai, China. He earned his bachelor's degree from Vassar College, where he majored in dance and media. After completing his undergraduate studies, Stephen worked as the company manager of an international touring modern dance company for five years before transitioning his passion for movement into the healthcare field. He then obtained his doctorate in physical therapy from Columbia University.
As an avid runner, dancer, and rock climber, Stephen has a particular interest in treating injuries and conditions commonly encountered during these activities. These conditions include patellofemoral pain, iliotibial band syndrome, chronic ankle sprains, hip impingement, and rotator cuff tendinopathy. He draws upon his clinical experience at Columbia's RunLab, where he conducted hands-on examinations and video analyses of both professional and amateur runners.
Stephen firmly believes in the importance of collaboration, effective communication, and evidence-based interventions in helping individuals recover from injuries and achieve their movement goals. He advocates for individualized treatment plans and strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for patients of all backgrounds. Stephen is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He holds memberships in the American Physical Therapy Association and the Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy. His areas of expertise include return-to-sport rehabilitation, physical therapy for performing artists, runners, and rock climbers.
