Joseph Ramek, MD

Joseph Ramek, MD has been practicing hematology-oncology for 40 years. Dr. Ramek’s practice gave him the perspective to see how the treatment of cancer and blood diseases has changed. There has been a sea change in the science; however, what it takes to be an effective hematologist oncologist has not changed at all. Dr. Ramek values his close relationships with his patients, whether they have only nominal hematological issues or life-threatening illnesses. What excites Dr. Ramek today about hematology-oncology is the same as what initially inspired him at Stanford to become a hematologist oncologist. The field is by far the most direct application of molecular biology in the treatment of patients. He is in awe of the science and of the scientists that have provided so many wonderful new medications in the treatment of cancer and blood diseases and appreciates being the “last mile” in applying those advancements to the care of my patients.
