Carlos Salama, MD, is a board-certified infectious disease physician with expertise in a wide range of conditions, including HIV and HIV resistance, tuberculosis, diabetic foot infections, osteomyelitis, malaria, liver abscesses, post-surgical infections, prosthetic joint infections, hepatitis C, and hepatitis B, among others.
Dr. Salama treats patients from mid-teens to senior citizens and is a native Spanish speaker, making him accessible to those more comfortable in Spanish. He provides compassionate and supportive care to patients throughout their treatment. His focus on limb-sparing strategies in managing diabetic foot infections and osteomyelitis has helped many patients avoid amputations.
Dr. Salama earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Muhlenberg College and his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at prestigious institutions. Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Salama is a Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine and has extensive experience teaching and training residents and fellows. He is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Salama enjoys playing soccer, snorkeling and travel.
