Amy Gottesman, OT, CHT has been practicing as a therapist for over twenty years. Her background includes working in orthopedics and the upper extremity and general practice. She has worked in nursing homes, homecare, and was the owner of The Hand Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk, CT for over a decade. Since college, Amy always knew she wanted to build a career in upper extremity care. As a student, she mentored with a certified hand therapist in Greenwich, CT. Her first job was in Rhode Island mentoring under two certified hand therapists associated with Rhode Island Hospital and its orthopedic department. She went to rounds with the doctors and attend patient surgeries. After her mentorship, Amy went on to work for Robert Beasley, MD in New York City. As the head of the Orthopedics and Plastic Surgery at New York University, Dr. Beasley had a private outpatient rehabilitation center where Amy learned from specialized techniques and surgical procedures. She attended surgical rounds at Mt. Sinai Hospital and worked in New York City for five years before moving back to Connecticut where she then got married and had three beautiful children. In Connecticut, she opened a private hand therapy that she ran until 2014. Amy has a great deal of experience in sports, music, surgical procedures, repetitive strain injuries, high impact injuries, custom splinting (dynamic and static), NCAA, post-op wound care, cold laser, fractures, amputations, ergonomics, activity analysis, workstations, and more. She has experience working with college teams, musicians, MLB players, actors, semi-pro boxers, and racecar drivers. She takes pride in helping patients return to a much better level of function than when they walked in the door when they were injured.
